Just about every photograph in the Vardo is the work of Jessica Black. For every person who looks at pictures of me and says I look fabulous,
this is the lady who makes it so. It's a grand thing to have a friend who knows how to accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative when you're less than
perfect (and more than a waif)!
Jessica is yet another of my girlfriends who triumphed over adversity. She
left home early and made it on her own in Los Angeles, photographing damn near every Sunset Strip metal band that this town churned out in the mid- to late-80s.
These days her subjects are mostly either our close friends playing dress-up, the occasional gig, landscapes or wildlife photos. Her passion for the plight of our four-legged brothers and sisters drives Jessica to be a loud and strong voice on their behalf. She's always writing letters to government officials letting them know that it is simply unacceptable
for some species to be driven to extinction for the convenience of the humans on this rock. She gives generously to most every animal advocacy group, of
her time as well as her money, and she pours her heart into it.
In 2010, like something out of a movie, she reconnected with a good friend from the past who turned out to be the man of her dreams. They're living happily ever after, and I couldn't be happier for them!
